Lone Star Ride Fighting AIDS

Date: September 24 and 25, 2011

Event : Lone Star Ride Fighting AIDS – Road

Routes: one-day, 45 mile ride to a two-day, 180 mile ride

About the Ride: Lone Star Ride Fighting AIDS is a two-day cycling adventure through scenic suburban and country roads winding through and around Dallas/Fort Worth on September 24 and 25, 2011. Now in its eleventh year, LSRFA offers a number of routes ranging from a one-day, 45 mile ride to a two-day, 180 mile ride.

LSRFA is an independent, non-profit organization that benefits AIDS Services of Dallas (ASD), AIDS Outreach Center of Tarrant County (AOC) and Resource Center Dallas (RCD). Monies raised by the ride are used by the beneficiaries to offer services including housing, hot meals, food pantries, HIV testing, counseling and other basic needs for more than 20,000 clients with HIV/AIDS in North Texas. A grass roots, volunteer supported organization, LSRFA has donated nearly $2 million to our three beneficiary agencies since 2001.

Challenge your body and expand your horizons while enjoying a scenic journey through North Texas. The minimum fundraising goal for riders is $500. We make fundraising fun and simple; upon registration you will receive your personal fundraising page from which you can launch fundraising email campaigns to your family, friends and coworkers.

Location: 531 N. Main Street, Schulenburg, TX 78956

Entry Fees: Registration $40

Routes: 15, 20, 32, 42 and 65 miles

Route Maps: Interactive Map

About the Ride:

The First Annual Texas Dance Hall Ride was established as a way to bring attention to the need for the preservation of historic dance halls throughout the state.   At one time there were a thousand traditional dance halls in Texas.  Many of those are already lost, and the ones that remain are at risk.  No other place on the planet has this unique heritage, produced as it was by the mix of diverse immigrant cultures on the southwestern frontier.  It was a place where the entire family came out on a Saturday night to enjoy live music and dance.  By taking advantage of the location in Schulenburg, Texas we were able to create a course which would bring riders up close and personal to two 100 year-old dance halls.  Both Swiss Alp Dance Hall and Sengelmann Hall are restored, fully functioning dance halls and are involved in the bike ride.  Riders will have the opportunity to check them both out on the course!  There will be live music, food and drink just after the ride.  We’re encouraging riders to stay the night (there’s a Best Western in town), and enjoy the music of Reckless Kelly at Swiss Alp on Saturday night.  Riders will have the opportunity to check it out plus a lot more.  Hope you can all come out!
