2011 Cow Creek Country Classic

Date: June 25th, 2011

Event: 25th Anniversary Cow Creek Country Classic 2011

Route Distances: 10, 19, 36, 46, 75 and 100 miles

About the Ride: The Cow Creek Country Classic Bike Ride is the Waxahachie Rotary Club’s major annual fund raising event. Each year’s ride is produced and presented by Rotary volunteers, students, Boy Scouts, and other civic volunteers from throughout Waxahachie and the surrounding communities. There are no paid employees.

Each year’s “Rider’s Dollars” are deeply appreciated and extremely important to Waxahachie Rotary and the community as a whole. We work quite hard to see that those dollars are well invested in improving the quality of life in the Waxahachie community. Over the past 24 years, your ride dollars have enabled the Waxahachie Rotary Club to:

  • Waxahachie Senior Center
  • Hope Clinic
  • Rotary Projects
  • Waxahachie Interact Club(s)
  • Community Service

Our ride is not a race, and will consist of 10, 19, 36, 55, 78 and 101 mile tours on a well marked course.

  • The 10 mile is a leisurely in-town tour of historic Waxahachie, with unique “Gingerbread Homes” and “National Historical Register Landmarks”, such as the octagon-shaped Chautauqua Auditorium in Getzendaner Park and the Ellis County Courthouse. All ages can participate with confidence of a safe ride. This year’s in-town ride will also utilize part of the new Hike ’n Bike Trail that Waxahachie has opened. The ride will also go through the downtown area, and if you want you may stop and eat or shop in the many antiques and arts & crafts shops around the square. This is an ideal ride for beginners, children and families seeking a fun morning together.
  • The 19, 36, and 55 mile tours go through some very beautiful, scenic parts of Ellis County.
  • The 78 and 101 mile tours are excellent rides through the beautiful countryside of Southwest and Southern Ellis County and parts of Johnson, Hill and Navarro Counties. There are some rolling hills, but most of the roadways are fairly flat.

All courses other than the Waxahachie City 10 mile are on paved rural state and farm roads, most of which have no shoulder. FOR YOUR SAFETY YOU ARE STRONGLY URGED TO RIDE SINGLE FILE IF AT ALL POSSIBLE TO ALLOW AUTOMOBILE TRAFFIC TO PASS. The finish takes you through Historic Downtown Waxahachie and into the back of the High School which will have less traffic.

New Belgium Brewing Urban Assault Ride – Austin

    Date: Sunday, June 26, 2011 – 8:00 AM

Event:New Belgium Brewing Urban Assault Ride Austin – Road

Location: Fiesta Gardens Park – Austin, TX

About the Ride: The Urban Assault Rideâ„¢ is the biggest bicycle scavenger hunt series in the nation! Here’s how it works: You and your teammate will set out on a city-wide quest for ‘checkpoints’ on your favorite two-wheeled steeds.  At each checkpoint, you’ll drop your bikes and complete a funky/adventurous obstacle course, then remount your bikes and hit the streets for more.

The goal is to complete all the checkpoints in the shortest amount of time. You choose your own route and checkpoint order. This means that the most clever are often the victors. Of course, it may also help if you can pull a mean big-wheel powerslide and fly across an inflatable slip-n-slide 😉

After your pedal-powered adventure, your team will cross the finish line and enter a massive celebration of New Belgium beer, bikes, and big wheels. The after party is just as much fun as the ride itself, thanks to the craziest raffle prize contest you’ll ever experience.

Pick a partner and we’ll see you there!!

    Firecracker 100

    Date: Saturday July 2, 2011

    Event: Firecracker 100

Route Distances: 10 Mile, 26 Mile, 43 Mile and 62 Mile

About the Ride: All routes are on US Highways, Farm to Market Roads and well-maintained, paved County Roads. The routes are the same as the last few years except for a few areas where improvements have been made.

Earth County roads consist of “ups” and “downs”. Most of the hills are not too long, but you’ll find some that go on for a while! And there’s even an occasional flat stretch, but they are few and far between.

One of the kinder things about the route is that the south wind will be to your back or your side, rather than in your face during the latter part of each route. That is, of course, if Mother Nature doesn’t play any tricks on us. The route format has been well received.
