Holiday Ramble II

Date: Sunday, November 18, 2012

Event: Holiday Ramble II

Route Distances64 Miles

About the Ride: The Holiday Ramble is a metric century(ish) gravel grinder starting at 10 am near Gainesville, TX.

The route is a full on gravel grinder featuring a unique combination of dirt roads and desolate country roads that promises to be both scenic and challenging. Riders will be able to enjoy a fantastic route that starts and ends in the “civilized” area outside of Gainesville in Oak Ridge, TX while meandering through some scenic rural areas which venture northwards towards the Red River.
The route can be run on a road bike (with fat rubber), or a mountain bike but riders shooting for the “win” will most likely utilize CX bikes. If you choose to take a road bike on the course please bring extra tubes because there are potholes and some rough sections of dirt road.
This marked course ride will provide aid/support stations but we will not providing sag support. Plan to bring enough food and supplies to be self supported in case of break down since it might take several hours for a sweep vehicle to reach stranded riders.
Additional details including maps/cue sheets will be available on www.Spinistry.com
All roads whether paved or unpaved are public roads subject to the regulations of the great State of Texas. Participants are required to obey all “rules of the road” and laws for the applicable jurisdiction(s) in which they operate their bicycles and/or other vehicles. This applies to both the featured event as well as any practice or warm up events. The Holiday Ramble II is an all weather event unless conditions are deemed unsafe for riders so there is a no refunds policy.
Organizers will NOT be providing any sag vehicles or support during the route. You are welcome to have your own support vehicles out on the course if you are not comfortable participating in a self supported metric century.Staging area will be the parking lot of Fireworks World.

About 20 miles on down the road, we’ll head east and then back north on into Big Spring where we’ll recuperate after the first day’s 75 miles. Sunday morning at 7 a.m. we’ll head north out of Big Spring and begin the second day’s 75 mile trek heading for Post.

Join us and more than 200 of our closest friends as we tour the scenic vistas of West Texas. Riders of all ages (minimum 12 years) and skill levels will set out on this 2-day journey! Preliminary route details are listed below. Please check back often for updates.

Day 1
On day 1, you will travel through the byways and highways of the Permian Basin, cruising into Big Spring for an Overnight celebration at the SouthWest Collegiate Institute for the Deaf. Dinner is served, and the story-telling can begin!

Day 2
Day 2 begins with a 5am breakfast and a 7am start, as we all head for the Finish Line in Post, Texas, as the route takes you back out into the dramatic scenery of West Texas.

Donation Information:
The dozen or so of us who will be participating in the ride would like to raise $7,500–about $600 each. While that seems like quite a bit, it is certainly attainable with your help. Any amount is OK (in past years we’ve received individual donations from as small as $5 to as much as $300).

Century at Sansom aka Sansom 66

Date: Saturday, December 08, 2012

Event: Century at Sansom aka Sansom 66

About the Ride:

Is this the toughest endurance mountain bike event in Texas? Many will attempt it, few will complete it. Time restrictions are tight, margin for error is slim and the course is difficult. Sansom Park is NOT your typical urban mountain bike trail. 1500′ of elevation per each 11 mile lap through loose rock climbs and descents and nary a straightaway over 200 feet long. The trail is fun and challenging and we’re doing every bit of it!

Field is currently limited to a maximum of 100 participants because of permit limitations. We will upgrade the permit if the original 100 sells out early enough to justify the additional expense of a higher level permit with the City.

This is a distance event with a timed cutoff(s) not a timed endurance event. Finish times will be logged DNF unless all laps are completed within the allotted time.

Solo (Elite) Century of 6 laps but with a cutoff based on 90 minute laps. I completed a lap today in 1:25 poking along since I hadn’t ridden Sansom in a while. The lap GPS’d at 10 miles but GPS always loses at least 10% so I’m confident that 6 laps will get our metric century. 6 laps is going to be very tough to complete. I don’t expect many solo finishers at all. You don’t have to be Pro or Cat 1 to participate but we may limit this field to experienced single track endurance racers based on the technical difficulty of the course.

Solo (Sport) Half Century of 3 laps with no cutoff time. 3 laps in a day will be plenty tough for most of us mortals. This should be an extremely well rounded field.

2 Person Relay (Men, Women, Co-ed) 6 laps with a cutoff based on 90 minute laps. Relayers must alternate laps so each rider must ride 3 laps for the team to complete the course. No individual rider will be allowed to ride consecutive laps. The relay teams were extremely fun when we did Hell on Wheels at Northshore. I’m really look forward to doing another event with the relays.

CATEGORY DISTANCE     START TIME FEE   PRIZES FIELD LIMIT

Solo Men 3 laps 33 miles 9:00 AM $60
