Team LIVESTRONG Challenge Austin

Date: October 19–21, 2012

Event: 2012 Team LIVESTRONG Challenge Austin

Route Distances: 20, 45, 65 or 90-mile

About the Ride: As our organization celebrates its 15th anniversary, the Team LIVESTRONG Challenge takes great pride in our history of cycling events. What started as a small ride called the Race for the Roses that Lance Armstrong began in 1997 has blossomed into a premiere fundraising event for LIVESTRONG.

We hope you’ll join us as we aim to make this year’s event a monumental cycling experience for LIVESTRONG. Leaving from the north side of Palmer Events Center on Riverside Drive in downtown Austin, our goal is to have over 4,000 cyclists raise $2 million to support our programs and services. Cyclists can choose from distances ranging from 20–100 miles, based on their experience and fitness level.

A $50 registration fee will apply for all riders. For those passionate about fighting cancer, we encourage you to fundraise and earn one-of-a-kind Team LIVESTRONG incentives while supporting programs and services for cancer survivors and their loved ones. Keeping with the tradition of all Team LIVESTRONG Challenge events, we will be hosting a fantastic post-event party for riders and spectators complete with local food vendors, Team LIVESTRONG sponsors and an activity area for kids.

Every cancer survivor who crosses the finish line will receive a yellow rose to celebrate their accomplishment. Staff and volunteers will be on-site all weekend to make sure you have an enjoyable weekend.

This year there will not be a 5K run/walk associated with the Team LIVESTRONG Challenge Austin weekend. Another great way to get involved is by participating in the Paramount Break-a-Leg 5K option as part of theLIVESTRONG Austin Marathon and Half Marathon in February. We will also continue to work with our community partners to identify other run/walk outlets for cancer fighters in the Austin area and throughout the country.

We look forward to seeing you in October.

Firecracker 100

Date: Saturday, July 7, 2012 – 6 AM

Event: Firecracker 100

Route Distances: 12 Mile, 24 Mile, 40 Mile and 100k

About the Ride: All routes are on US Highways, Farm to Market Roads and well-maintained, paved County Roads. The routes are the same as the last few years except for a few areas where improvements have been made.

Earth County roads consist of “ups” and “downs”. Most of the hills are not too long, but you’ll find some that go on for a while! And there’s even an occasional flat stretch, but they are few and far between.

One of the kinder things about the route is that the south wind will be to your back or your side, rather than in your face during the latter part of each route. That is, of course, if Mother Nature doesn’t play any tricks on us. The route format has been well received.
