Third Annual All American Bicycle Rally

Date: Saturday, June 09, 2012

Event: Third Annual All American Bicycle Rally 2012

Route Distance: 10, 26, 54 and 74 miles

About the Ride: Join us for our Third Annual All American Bike Rally through North East Parker County benefitting the Springtown Area Chamber of Commerce.  We  have routes ranging from 10 to 74 miles (10, 28, 54, 74) traveling as far west as Garner, Texas.  The ride will begin and end at the Springtown High School parking lot where the riders can shower and enjoy a BBQ sandwich at the end of the ride…compliments of Woody Creek BBQ.

Our last riders in (off the 74 mile route) had a deer jump in front of them as they were finishing the route.  We were told while it had their adrenaline going out of fear, it was also beautiful to see this graceful animal in front of them.  Now that’s something you can’t see in the City!!

Parker County – you are great!  We appreciate the efforts to keep your dogs penned during this event.  We would love to see our community along the road cheering our riders.  If you would be interested in doing this next year, we can let you know the routes.  It could be like the Tour de’ France.  Or, if you would like to greet them at the Finish Line, let us know.

The Third Annual All American Bicycle Rally will be June 9, 2012!  Join us for the fun as a rider, volunteer or spectator!

Cow Creek Country Classic

Date: June 23th, 2012

Event: 26th Anniversary Cow Creek Country Classic 2012

Route Distances: 10 mile-in town family ride, 19, 36, 55, 78 and 101 mile routes

About the Ride: The Cow Creek Country Classic Bike Ride is the Waxahachie Rotary Club’s major annual fund raising event. Each year’s ride is produced and presented by Rotary volunteers, students, Boy Scouts, and other civic volunteers from throughout Waxahachie and the surrounding communities. There are no paid employees.

Each year’s “Rider’s Dollars” are deeply appreciated and extremely important to Waxahachie Rotary and the community as a whole. We work quite hard to see that those dollars are well invested in improving the quality of life in the Waxahachie community. Over the past 25 years, your ride dollars have enabled the Waxahachie Rotary Club to:

  • Waxahachie Senior Center
  • Hope Clinic
  • Rotary Projects
  • Waxahachie Interact Club(s)
  • Community Service

Our ride is not a race, and will consist of 10, 19, 36, 55, 78 and 101 mile tours on a well marked course.

  • The 10 mile is a leisurely in-town tour of historic Waxahachie, with unique “Gingerbread Homes” and “National Historical Register Landmarks”, such as the octagon-shaped Chautauqua Auditorium in Getzendaner Park and the Ellis County Courthouse. All ages can participate with confidence of a safe ride. This year’s in-town ride will also utilize part of the new Hike ’n Bike Trail that Waxahachie has opened. The ride will also go through the downtown area, and if you want you may stop and eat or shop in the many antiques and arts & crafts shops around the square. This is an ideal ride for beginners, children and families seeking a fun morning together.
  • The 19, 36, and 55 mile tours go through some very beautiful, scenic parts of Ellis County.
  • The 78 and 101 mile tours are excellent rides through the beautiful countryside of Southwest and Southern Ellis County and parts of Johnson, Hill and Navarro Counties.

While most of the roadways are fairly flat, the longer routes do have some challenging hills.

All courses other than the Waxahachie City 10 mile are on paved rural state and farm roads, most of which have no shoulder. FOR YOUR SAFETY YOU ARE STRONGLY URGED TO RIDE SINGLE FILE IF AT ALL POSSIBLE TO ALLOW AUTOMOBILE TRAFFIC TO PASS. The finish takes you through Historic Downtown Waxahachie and into the back of the High School which will have less traffic.

Note:  All routes subject to last minute changes due to weather conditions or construction issues.

Wheels for Meals

Date: Saturday, October 6, 2012

Event: Wheels for Meals

Route Distances: 88 Miles

About the Ride: Twenty-two eager riders made our 2011 event the greatest success. The riders came from Midland, Odesssa, San Antonio, Houston, Fort Davis and Alpine. The day was perfect with a cool morning and sunny afternoon. The riders were greeted at each pit stop along the way and shared lunch in Valentine. In the evening, there was a cookout for all the volunteers, riders, and  sponsors. Everyone remarked at how much fun the ride was and promised to come back next year. October 6 is the date for 2012. Please join us then.

Wheels for Meals is a charity bicycle ride from the Food Pantry of Jeff Davis County to Valentine, TX.  The ride is about 88 miles.  Riders from around the state have signed up to challenge themselves for this ride. Each rider has collected donations of at least $250. which go directly to the Food Pantry. Our Food Pantry helps about 20 percent of the families in Jeff Davis County with supplemental food.  2009 was our first year for this wonderful fund raiser.

Besides the bicycle riders, many volunteers are needed for registration in the morning, manning the two pit stops, passing out lunch in Valentine and cheering the riders in as they return to the Food Pantry in the afternoon.

Location: Food Pantry-Jeff Davis County – 609 E Compromise St, Fort Davis, TX
