Event: Chile Pepper Challenge — Road
Route Distances (Click distances for route maps): 100 miles, 62 miles, 40 miles, 22 miles and a 10 mile fun ride
About the Ride: The Chile Pepper Challenge is El Paso’s premier cycling event. Each year over 600 cyclists line up for an epic ride through the scenic and historic Mesilla Valley over country lanes covered by pecan orchards and lined by New Mexico’s world renowned chile fields. The Chile Pepper Challenge offers routes, distances and mountain climbs for cyclist of all skill levels and ambition.
The 100 and 62 mile rides include climbs over Transmountain Road and the Anthony Gap. For the 2011 ride the Transmountain and Anthony Gap climbs will be in the first section of each route, essentially reversing the route of prior years. All rides start and end at Santa Teresa High School in Santa Teresa, New Mexico. All rides are fully supported with rest stops, route markings and SAG vehicles. Rest stops offer snacks, water and port-a-potties. Food and drinks are provided to all riders at the end of the ride.
